Where Valensole Lavender Becomes Oil
The hands-on side of the plateau.
Beyond the famous roadside rows, Valensole is a region of working estates where lavandin is distilled into essential oil and grapes become Provence wine. A winery-and-lavender-farm visit is the hands-on, affordable way to see that side of the plateau — walking the rows, watching or learning about distillation, and tasting local wine and lavender products at the source.
The featured visit pairs a winery and a lavender farm and carries a perfect traveler rating, making it an easy add-on to any field day. Around it sit related experiences: a lavender field with a bottle of champagne, a sidecar wine-and-lavender tour, a soap workshop, and relaxed field-and-snack estate visits — all small, all behind-the-scenes.

What Travelers Say
"Very well guided tour with lot of explanations and tastings. We also booked the wine tasting afterward which was given from the owner itself who's very passionate about his winery. Its a beautiful estate with a vast variety of plants and products. As a tip, come with sturdy shoes and loose long pants, since the walk is mainly off road and through some woods, but all easy walkable. We were very happy witht the tour and highly recommend it."

Everything to know about visiting a working lavender farm and winery.
You walk a working estate's lavender rows, learn how lavandin is harvested and distilled into essential oil, and usually taste local wine and lavender products such as honey or syrup — often with the chance to buy at the source.
Yes. The featured winery-and-farm visit starts well below the price of a full guided day trip, making it an easy, affordable add-on if you're already near Valensole or on another tour.
Harvested lavandin is steam-distilled: steam passes through the flowers, carrying the aromatic oil, which is then separated from the water. Many farms show the still and explain the process during the visit.
For the rows in bloom, come late June to mid-July; harvest begins around mid-July. The estate and tasting are interesting year-round, but the purple fields are seasonal.
Some farm visits assume you arrive independently, while others are part of a guided tour with transport. Check the listing — if you don't have a car, choose a tour that includes pickup.
Usually yes — working farms and distilleries sell essential oil, soaps, dried lavender, honey, and sometimes wine, often at better prices than tourist shops.
Yes. Around the core farm visit you'll find experiences such as a lavender soap workshop and a sidecar wine-and-lavender tour for a more hands-on or novel angle.
Generally yes — farms can be engaging for kids — but supervise them around distillation equipment and the bee-busy fields, and bring sun protection and water.
Only if the farm explicitly invites it; the commercial rows are a crop and shouldn't be picked or trampled. Follow the estate's instructions.
Many farm and tasting experiences offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Confirm the policy on the individual booking page.
