"Ben was a wonderful host and gave us a fun-filled day in and around the beautiful lavender fields of Valensole. This included very private areas that he knew about, away from crowds, and with magnificent fields. He then took us to a charming and very old village that we loved. Ben is extremely friendly and fun to be with. We highly recommend him!"

Cruise Shore Excursion
Lavender on Your Day in Port
How a cruise-timed tour differs from a standard one.
If your cruise calls at Marseille during lavender season, the Valensole fields are within reach as a shore excursion — but timing is everything. A dedicated cruise-port tour is picked up at or near the Marseille cruise terminal, paced to the plateau and back, and built to return you well before all-aboard, which a standard day tour won’t guarantee.
The plateau is about 90 minutes inland from Marseille, so the excursion is a focused full day: photo stops in the blooming rows and a working lavender-farm visit, with the drive carefully managed around your ship’s departure. It’s the lowest-stress way to see the lavender when your time on shore is fixed.
Outside a cruise, the same fields are covered by standard tours from Marseille and the closer departures from Aix-en-Provence. Whatever the base, the bloom window is the same: late June to mid-July, harvest from around mid-July.

What Travelers Say
"Remi our tour guide was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and timely. We appreciated the special attention. Highly recommend this tour. The lavender fields are amazing!!!"
"Paolo was fantastic! We did a lot of excursions throughout our time in Europe, but this was the best. Paolo took us to Lavendar fields that didn’t have other people and a neat family owned Lavendar and Olive oil business. Our lunch spot was in Valensole, which was so cute. The day was perfectly timed. We loved it so much!!! Highly recommend."

"Remi and the Marseille tour team were fantastic. I can’t say enough positive things. They accommodated our challenging delay arriving to Marseille and were so welcoming and excited to share their knowledge of the region. Remi adjusted the trip so that we made our tight timeline seamlessly. The stress melted away as we met the owner of the lavender farm and listened to their story of how they’ve managed to stay vibrant and thriving through generations. My family loved this trip! Remi - we looked at other hats. Yours is still the best!"
"It was a magical day. The lavender fields were in full bloom and our tour guide couldn't have been better. I highly recommend this tour."
"I really liked that this was a small group and picked up right at the port. Our guide was there waiting with a sign with our name on it. We went to the lavender fields, a small farm that is a local producer of almonds, lavender, and other things, and then to a small town where we could grab lunch. Our guide was awesome, and he was on his second day guiding, but was friendly and let us ask him all sorts of questions about anything. Had a really fun day. Would definitely recommend over other large group tours. And they got us back on time with time to spare, which was good because we got caught in a rain storm driving back."
"Most liked: The lavender fields and the time to take photos. To improve: Spend more time at lunch time to explore the village. The front seat of the bus was too narrow for 3 persons, very uncomfortable."
"Paolo was great! He knew exactly what we were looking for and knew the area well. Very personable and knowledgeable."

Everything cruise passengers need to know about visiting the lavender.
A dedicated cruise-port excursion is built around all-aboard times and includes terminal-area pickup. Standard day tours are not timed for ships, so book a tour described as a shore excursion or for cruise passengers.
Pickup is at or near the Marseille cruise terminal. The exact point and time are on your booking confirmation — confirm them against your ship's port schedule.
The Valensole plateau is about 110 km — roughly 90 minutes' drive each way — from Marseille, so the excursion is a focused full day in port.
Peak bloom is roughly late June to mid-July, with harvest from around mid-July. Cruise itineraries calling in late June or early July hit the best window.
Typically round-trip transport from the port area, photo stops in the Valensole fields, and a working lavender-farm or distillery visit. Lunch is usually at your own expense.
If your call is in mid-to-late July, some fields may already be cut. A guide can route you to fields still standing; ask the operator about conditions for your date.
It's mainly a scenic driving tour with short walks at the fields and farm. Contact the operator in advance about specific access needs and terrain.
No. The fields are private working crops; picking and trampling are not allowed. Photograph from the edges and follow your guide.
Cruise excursions often use minibuses or small coaches. Group size varies by operator; check the listing if a small group matters to you.
Many excursions offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Cruise passengers should book early in the season, as lavender-window dates sell out.
