"Tour guide was really nice. All the itenerary was great. A lot of beautiful spots. completely worth it. We went in the end of June which is the best time to visit because lavender fields are blooming at that time. If you also decide to visit at the same period, I would recommend that you go in the morning as it gets really hot and it's way easy to deal with highe temperatures in the beginning of the day. Overall everything was excellent. would highly recommend"

The Easiest Way into the Valensole Lavender
Why Aix is the smartest base for the fields.
Of all the gateways to the Valensole plateau, Aix-en-Provence is the closest — roughly an hour’s drive — which is why it has the deepest choice of lavender tours and the shortest time in the minibus. You trade the coast’s beaches for proximity to the flowers.
A typical day trip leaves Aix mid-morning, climbs onto the plateau for photo stops among the blooming rows, and folds in a stop at a working lavender farm or distillery where you learn how lavandin becomes essential oil. Half-day options get you back to Aix by afternoon; full-day tours add a hilltop village or a swim near the Gorges du Verdon.
Because the bloom peaks only from late June to mid-July and the fields are harvested from around mid-July, the Aix departures sell out fastest in early July. Book a dated tour rather than gambling on a self-drive — a guide knows which fields are still standing and uncut on the day.

"we loved the visit to the lavender fields, our guide Lucille was amazing, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. we highly recommend!"
"Great trip with a great guide! We spent what felt like a good amount of time (15-20 minutes maybe) in two different fields with incredible views of fields and mountains. We also got to go to a local lavender merchandise shop and spent a little bit of time in a local town where we got lavender gelato and other desserts. We did a lot in a short amount of time and our guide did an amazing job throughout the entire trip. Totally recommend if you’re not into doing a full-day trip!"

Everything to know about visiting the lavender fields from Aix.
The Valensole plateau is about 60–70 km from Aix-en-Provence, roughly a one-hour drive. Aix is the closest major city to the fields, which is why it has the widest choice of lavender day tours.
The lavender at Valensole peaks roughly from late June to mid-July. Aim for the last week of June through about July 10 for the fullest bloom, and book early because peak-season weekends fill up.
Bloom timing shifts year to year with the spring weather, and harvest starts around mid-July. If you're travelling near the edges of the season, choose a guided tour — the guide knows which fields are still standing and uncut that day.
Most tours from Aix depart from a central meeting point, and some offer pickup from selected hotels. Your booking confirmation lists the exact meeting point and time.
The half-day tour focuses on the Valensole fields and a farm stop and gets you back to Aix by afternoon. The full-day tour adds more time on the plateau and usually a hilltop village or a Verdon Gorge stop.
Yes — most Aix departures include a stop at a working lavender farm or distillery where you can see how lavandin is grown and distilled into oil, and buy products at the source.
No. The fields are private working farms and picking or walking into the rows damages the crop. Photograph from the edges and the tracks, and follow your guide's instructions.
Generally yes, though it's a full outing with driving time. The fields are hot and busy with bees at midday, so bring sun protection and water and keep small children close to the path.
Most Aix lavender tours use 8-seater minibuses or small coaches. Group sizes vary by operator; check the specific tour for its maximum group size if a small group matters to you.
Most tours offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. The exact policy is shown on each tour's booking page before you pay.
